SGMP Chicago Chapter
Globally Outreaching to All Meeting Professionals

Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP)

SGMP is a national association for individuals involved in planning government meetings and for the companies who provide facilities or services to those planners. SGMP membership includes employees of federal, state and local governments, as well as contract meeting planners, who manage government meetings on a full- or part-time basis.

SGMP's mission is to enhance the knowledge and expertise of government meeting professionals. Its objectives are to improve the quality and promote the cost-effectiveness of government meetings.

SGMP is the only national organization in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to government meetings. All of its members pledge to uphold the code of ethics. SGMP is one of 31 organizations represented in the Conventions Industry Council (CIC) that promotes professionalism within the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.

The Society is governed by a national board of directors who are elected every two years by their member peers and is managed by a headquarters staff in the greater Washington, DC, area. SGMP hosts a National Education Conference (NEC) every summer. The chapters, which includes SGMP Chicago, elect their own local leaders and hold monthly meetings in their respective areas.

Member benefits are delivered through education, resources and networking. We are now in our third consecutive year of membership growth and chapter expansion.
